For those who do not know, the Amatola Mountains are in the Eastern Cape, the trail goes from Maden Dam to Hogsback.
The Wild Coast Ultra Trail Run will be held from 7th to 12th February 2011 and will also be the last one. This is a 270k, 6 day stage run from Port St. Johns to East London along the coast. For those rough, tough and ready trail runners looking for a challenge, these trail runs will suit you.

- Puffer support table
Come out and support the runners taking part in the Puffer trial run on the 21 August 2010.
If you are interested in assisting and offering your support on the day please contact
Lynne Tolsma 021 785 1800 or 076 308 7550 or Keith Gurney on 083 948 0076.
Satori will be hosting a table at Black Hill.
Please come – this is a really fun event and the runners need support on this tough trail challenge.
- Sponsorship appeal
Karoline Hanks is running Puffer again this year and is asking people to sponsor her. 2010 is International Year of Biodiversity. In an effort to increase awareness of the spectacular variety of life on our planet, and to raise the profile of a very special threatened species that is right on our doorstep, I want to use the opportunity to raise funds for the magnificent endangered Western Leopard Toads and to help the excellent work of the Noordhoek Unpaid Toad Savers (Toad NUTS).
SO….
I am asking you to please either contribute R1 per km that I will run (i.e.R80) or any amount per km you wish!
If I manage to run it in UNDER 8 ½ hours (and if you agree) - your donation amount doubles.
(FYI - In 2009, the winning lady ran it in 8hrs26 and was 4th overall)…..so the pressure will be ON!
The idea is to raise enough money to build a small pond or wetland far away from busy roads/houses/walls, so that these precious amphibians will be able to breed safely at this time of year, every year for many, many years to come.
Please email Karoline on karabos@telkomsa.net if you are willing to sponsor her.
- Calling all members - again!
Please – all members must take part in the Satori Marshall’s Camel Run on the 22 August 2010.
All our members must go online to enter for the race at www.camelrun.co.za. Please do this ASAP!
The marshall’s run will start at 7h30 on the 22nd, followed by a breakfast and some spot prizes.
We will also be having a race briefing at 10h00 that morning for all members assisting on the day.
If you not going to run, then please make an effort to be at the breakfast and briefing.
In order for this race to be a success we need all members to make a commitment and to know what to do on the day. We look forward to seeing you there!

Becky Jones is doing it again – another PB in the Pinelands 10km: 53:54 – nearly 2 mins faster than her previous PB - only 2 months ago! Well done Becky!
- Winter Kit
Two new branded men’s polar fleece jackets are available – both medium, one blue and one black – R195. Please contact Vanessa Fisher (fisher.vn@gmail.com) if you are interested.
- Security Alert
Satori A.C and the NMMSC subscribe to the DASCRO Neighbourhood Watch and it has been very reassuring to all our members who take part in the time trial to see the ADT vehicle watching our members at the bridge.
The area still needs 35 subscribers for the dedicated ADT patrol car to remain. If this does not happen, the car will be withdrawn as of 1 September 2010 and the service will revert to the normal 10-15 minute response time and unpatrolled streets and the old level of 3-5 incidents of theft every month.
We appeal to all the residents in this area to please join the DASCRO neighbourhood watch and sign up for a very valuable service. Our security is crucial!
You can get details from dascrowatch@gmail.com, fax 086 6782 774 or call 082 5503532. Sign up today. This service has been extremely successful in the Chapman’s Peak area – make it happen here as well.

- Mens’ Time Trial series
Men – you should all be running time trial every Wednesday from now until 18 August. We know that the weather is not always great at this time of the year – that is the whole point of the series – to motivate you to get off the couch! The football is over – get those running shoes on! Very disappointing attendance so far!
July 22nd, 2010
- Camel Run
The Camel run is upon us again! This popular event on the running
calendar takes place on 5 September. No members – other than
those invited to do so by the committee – may run the race.
Our club is too small and we need all hands available to help,
both in the lead up to the race and on the day itself.
The marshall’s run is scheduled for the 22 August (or 29 August if the weather
is really dreadful). Please all enter – you do so on the Camel run web site
(www.camelrun.co.za),
pay your money and click enter. The system picks up Satori members and automatically
allocates them to the Marshall’s run. Non-Satori members who are helping
on the day and who would like to run the Marshall’s race are very welcome,
but they must email Bianca and Scott as indicated on the web site to let
them know that they have entered the Marshall’s run.
Becky is having some difficulty gathering enough marshalls for the route
on the day. This is a vital area of race organisation (and unless you have
been involved you have no idea just how much work this one day takes!). If
you have not already done so please volunteer your services to Becky – she
can be contacted on 0824981914. We really do need everyone who is in the
club and here on the day to help in some capacity. Satori’s strength lies
in its community.
- Social
This event has been cancelled because so few people were interested – the World Cup has a lot to answer for! We will be replacing this with a couple of casual hamburger/soup evenings at the club.
July 16th, 2010

If you are not running, please join us for breakfast at about 8.30. Come along and bring the family, talk about your World Cup – or your break from Cape Town!
