30 km .. a long way to go.. but what an awesome and invigorating race!
There was a bigger group of satori's than anticipated. The run started at 6:30 near club Med, in Camps Bay. It took us out towards Camps Bay beach and past all the sleepy little restaurants.
Then we trailed along the coastal road towards Hout Bay. The twelve apostles towering over us and standing guard. The weather was perfect not too hot and no wind! Then down Mandela Park Entrance and turning into the Main road which lead us past Kronendal Primary school.
We made our way to Mariners Wharf via the turnaround. On the way back we had to negotiate a couple of little hilly roads before we were allowed to run up Suikerbossie!
It slowly became hotter and a couple of water tables had to improvise to get water to the runners. There was plenty of Coke... just the water was getting "min".
After Suikerbossie +/- 20 km the downhill started. Down Down Down. You run so fast and well for such a long time, that when it flattens out you think you are climbing up a hill.
Running along the twelve apostles again and into a, now buzzing, Camps Bay where the restaurants were full and the beach was filling. It was a busy run through that main road and then up that last little hill and down to the maidens cove parking area.
30 km DONE! It was hard and good... definitely something every runner should do at least once.
