Satori Athletics Club was officially born in January 2006. The name 'Satori' refers to a Japanese state of harmonious balance between mind, body and emotions.
The Wednesday evening five kilometre time trial is the central club event of the week. Those not yet bitten by the running bug can join the walkers group, while children are an integral part of the club - there is always a parent watching over them. Once the time trial is over, its time to chill. Sipping a post-run beer or cider with friends while watching the summer sun go down over the Atlantic is idyllic.
Satorians can also be found gathered around braai fires at the Oasis several times a year, and occasionally dancing under the stars to a superb selection of music.
In the end however, Satori is about the pure joy of running. Members come in all shapes and sizes and assorted fitness levels.

ASA engages trail runners
2011 saw the first ever team sent by South Africa to a Trail Running World Championships when a team of 5 was sent to Ireland for the July 9 World Ultra Trail Running Championships.
The need to be more involved in the fast growing sport of trail running in South Africa by both ASA and the trail running community has prompted all the parties to get together on 29 October to flesh out how to grow the sport and how get South Africa to be a major player on the World Trail Running Circuit.
The meeting will take place at the Constantia Nek Restaurant Conference Room, in Constantia, Cape Town. It will start at 10:30. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome to do so, but they are requested to register their interest by either contacting ASA President James Evans via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Congratulations to all satorians who competed on the red hill marathon. the conditions were rather challenging and it was certainly not a pb kind of day out there with the extreme heat.
Congratulations to one of our new members Beryl Mccutcheon who teamed up with Charissa Balman in 'team wie stoot so' in the spur adventure sprint series in grabouw last week. They finished top of the series and won the ladies section. an awesome team effort!

Races
Atlantic Athletic Club sincerely regrets the shortage of medals at the finish of the Bay to Bay on Sunday 8th January.
Whilst this was a pre-entry race, entries were taken as advertised up to the day before the race and it is simply not possible to top up orders at such short notice, especially as factories are closed at the time.
It was the unexpected radical growth in the relay which caused the problem. Medal orders were scaled up for all 3 races according to trends over the past few years but the relay numbers this year (492 teams against a conservative estimate of 375) took everyone by surprise. Whilst the 30Km field at 1930 finishers was almost exactly as estimated, medals were transferred across to the relay when the problem became apparent and this is why the 30Km medals ran out as well.
We request finishers who did not receive a medal but still would like one and have not already come forward to please contact us by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and advise:

Andrea
Monday evenings, same as last year, leaving from the Baptist Church at 18h00. This run caters for two groups, firstly the beginners or those who feel they need to start 2012 slowly; and secondly for the more experienced runners who would like to run in a group. The Saturday/Sunday runs will be increasing in distance from 15 km in January leading up to The Two Oceans Marathon, with lovely long runs up to 40 km towards the end of our training. I am looking forward to sharing the hours on the road with you. Very important please note that the morning runs start at 06h00 during the first term of 2012.
Click here to see our training run schedule on our website.
Remember that speed is not the essence but rather the love for running.
Have fun and enjoy the long daylight hours.
For the Love of It
Andrea!
